Four-Wheeling Trails

Salida is located on the western bank of the Arkansas River at the junction of U.S. Hwy 50 & State Hwy 291 at an elevation of  7,038 feet. The town is minutes from trailheads in the San Isabel National Forest and is a major supply point for those four-wheeling in the region.

Mt. Antero Salida Ranger District The road system that leads to the summit of Mt. Antero is recommended for high-clearance 4WD vehicles only. The upper sections of the road are used for mountain climbing and rock hounding.
Mt. Princeton Salida Ranger District Mt. Princeton is one of the most visible mountains in the Sawatch Mountain Range. The broad eastern face of the mountain dominates the landscape as visitors to the Arkansas River Valley enter Johnson Village on Highway 24/285.
Pomeroy Lakes Trail Salida Ranger District Pomeroy Lakes lie in an alpine basin that is accessible by 4WD. The trail to the lakes extends 2 miles round trip. Fishing is good in both lakes for cutthroat and rainbow trout.
