Horseback Riding Trails in the Canon City, Colorado area

Canon City is located on U.S. Hwy 50 west of Pueblo at an elevation of 5,348 feet. The trails near Canon City, Colorado are located in the San Carlos Ranger District of the San Isabel National Forest. The town is minutes from trailheads in the San Carlos Ranger District and is the major supply point for those riding in the region. Trails range in elevation from 8,600 feet to 9,720 feet. The San Carlos Ranger District comprises the southern part of the San Isabel National Forests and includes the eastern half of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range.

Trail	Location	Description
Cascade Creek Trail	San Carlos Ranger District	Access to this trail is on Huerfano Trail 1307 which meets up with Cascade Trail at Strawberry Creek about five miles from the trailhead. There are undeveloped camping sites along the road, trail and trailhead.
Dikes Trail	San Carlos Ranger District	There is a railroad tie staircase with a handrail at the trailhead; there is also a trail register board. Don't forget to sign in. The tread is awfully narrow for mountain bikes. Beware of protruding foliage.
Dodgeton Trail	San Carlos Ranger District	This trail starts at Spring Creek Trailhead, where there is parking, a new toilet and picnicking facilities. It is designated as a multiple use trail.
Mosca Pass Trail	San Carlos Ranger District	Mosca Pass Trail begins at the Montville Trail, a self-guided interpretive trail, in the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. The trail follows Mosca Creek to the top of Mosca Pass.
