Mountain Biking Trails in Buena Vista, Colorado

Buena Vista is located at the junction of U.S. Highways 24 & 285 at an elevation is 7,954 feet. It's geographic location offers easy access to trail systems in both the Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts of the San Isabel National Forest and is a major supply point for those biking in the region.

Angel Of Shavano Trailhead	Salida Ranger District	The Angel of Shavano Trailhead serves as an access point for segment 14 of the Colorado Trail, as well as access to the Mt. Shavano Trail.
Birdseye Gulch Unimproved Road	Leadville Ranger District	This is a difficult ride through Leadville's historic mining district and some beautiful views if you chance to look around. The route down is steep and rocky with a bog you won't forget.
Buckeye Gulch Four-Wheel Drive Road	Leadville Ranger District	This is a short four-wheel drive road that can be hiked or biked as well. The road ends at Buckeye Trail which leads to Buckeye Lake.
Buckeye Trail	Leadville Ranger District	This short trail, located north of Leadville, leads to Buckeye Lake. It gains 1,000' in approximately 2 miles.
Chalk Mountain Unimproved Road	Leadville Ranger District	Chalk Mountain Road leads users through old growth spruce/fir forest and alpine meadows.
Clear Creek Road	Leadville Ranger District	Clear Creek Road is passable by most two-wheel drive vehicles. Many recreation opportunities are accessible from this road including hiking, fishing, viewing scenery, touring historic sites, mountain biking and four-wheel driving.
Clohesy's Lake Four-Wheel Drive Road	Leadville Ranger District	This road is a fork from Clear Creek Road that leads to Clohesy's Lake with hiker access to Pear Lake. Clohesy's Lake Road is recommended for high clearance vehicles only as it is extremely rough.
Colorado Trail (Tennessee Pass to Turquoise Lake)	Leadville Ranger District	This segment of the Colorado Trail leads users through lodgepole, spruce-fir and aspen forests. It consists of moderately difficult terrain.
Colorado Trail (Halfmoon to Twin Lakes)	Leadville Ranger District	This segment of the Colorado Trail begins in the Halfmoon Drainage and continues for approximately 6 miles to the Lakeview Campground above Twin Lakes.
Echo Canyon Trail	Leadville Ranger District	This is a short but steep trail. Excellent opportunities for viewing high alpine scenery and wildlife.
