Royal
Gorge Bridge & Park
The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park
features the Royal Gorge Bridge, said to be the world's highest suspension
bridge. Built in 1929, the one-lane toll bridge spans Royal Gorge
1,053 feet above the Arkansas River. The park also offers an incline
railway to the bottom of the Gorge, an aerial tram across the canyon,
children's attractions, theater, trolley, miniature train, carousel,
playground and scenic trails; some features operate seasonally. Picnicking
is permitted.

Royal
Gorge Route

Gorge! The Royal Gorge Route follows the most famous portion of the
old Denver & Rio Grande Western train line, 24 miles round-trip,
from Cañon
City to Parkdale and return. The train takes passengers through the
"Grand Canyon of the Arkansas" on an unforgettable journey
over the famous Hanging bridge, which clings precariously to the steep
granite walls of the Royal Gorge that tower over 1,000 feet above.
This historic route offers scenery that is unsurpassed, and according
to our guests, is simply one of the most scenic train rides in the

Joe Frontier Town & Railway
The old west explodes

Dinosaur
Depot
Imagine a place where huge dinosaurs roamed through a great river
valley. These giants watched as fierce allosaurs chased smaller plant-eating
dinosaurs. The Dinosaur Depot brings this ancient environment to life!
Here, you can touch fossilized dinosaur bone that are over 100 million
years old. You can hold smooth gastroliths - rocks that ground-up
food in a dinosaur's stomach, and stand next to an eight-foot tall
dinosaur leg bone. The Depot's fossil laboratory meets strict standards
for fossil preparation. Visitors can see trained volunteers carefully

Museum
Contains game trophies, fossils, minerals,
weaponry, tools, household objects and American Indian artifacts.

Colorado
Territorial Prison Museum And Park
The Territorial Prison Museum is unique
to Cañon City. The museum interprets the
history and use of the Territorial Prison structure built in 1871
and used continuously through 1970. Displays featuring a gas chamber,
confiscated inmate weapons, disciplinary paraphernalia, and historical
photographs are housed in the cell block of a former women's prison.

Isabel National Forests
Cañon City is minutes from the San Carlos Ranger
District of San Isabel National Forest. The forest includes scenic
and recreational features within its 1,109,782 acres. The recreation
opportunities in the forest are countless. Visitors can visit ghost
towns or backpack on more than 700 miles of trails. Camping, Fishing,
hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and
snowshoeing are only a few of the activities available. Horseback,
snowmobile, mountain biking, jeep, and other tours are available
from local vendors and outfitters.

Arkansas
Headwaters State Recreation Area
The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Areas is one of
the nation's most unusual recreation areas, stretching for 148 miles
along one of the West's premier recreation rivers, the Arkansas.
From its northern boundary below the fabled mining town of Leadville
to the Pueblo Reservoir, the area is a recreation paradise. Opportunities
abound for fishing, rafting, kayaking, picnicking, wildlife watching,
hiking, camping, mountain climbing and sightseeing among deep canyons,
broad valleys, and towering mountains. Local outfitters offer a
wide variety of rafting, kayaking, and float fishing trips on the
Arkansas River.
