Buena Vista is located on the west bank of the Arkansas River north of junction U.S. Hwy 24 & U.S. Hwy 285. The town's elevation is 7,954 feet. Campgrounds near Buena Vista provide ample opportunities for fishing, saddle trips, hiking, backpacking, river rafting, winter sports, and more. Numerous ghost towns from Colorado's mining heyday dot the region. River rafting, horseback, snowmobile, mountain bike, jeep, and other tours are available from local vendors and outfitters.

Description

Hecla Junction Campground  Hecla Junction campground is located at the traditional take out for the Browns Canyon run, you can expect to see all sorts of rafting and kayaking activity here. But once the boats come off the water, life returns to normal, and your camping experience begins. Fishing has been known to be pretty good in this stretch of the river, and several hiking opportunities are available around the site.
Railroad Bridge Campground Railroad Bridge campground is located north of Buena Vista. Traditionally this site has been a popular river access point for boaters and gold-panners alike. It also is located fairly close to some of the better known climbing in the region.
Ruby Mountain Campground Ruby Mountain is one of the most popular campground sites, especially for private boaters. This site is one of the few sites that commercial rafting companies can't utilize. This means that the boat ramp, campground and picnic areas are exclusively for the private users. Along with the excellent river access, several trails in the area lead into the backcountry.

Angel Of Shavano Campground Salida Ranger District Angel of Shavano Campground is located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies at an elevation of 9200'. A variety of recreation opportunities are available from this site.
Angel Of Shavano Group Site Salida Ranger District The Angel of Shavano Group Camp and Picnic Site is located within the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This site has the capacity to house 100 people. Reservations are required.
Baby Doe Campground Leadville Ranger District Baby Doe Campground is one of 8 campgrounds surrounding Turquoise Lake. It has 50 reservable sites with a maximum trailer size for the campground of 32'. 
Belle Of Colorado Campground Leadville Ranger District Belle of Colorado Campground is one of 8 campgrounds surrounding Turquoise Lake. Tent sites only are available at this campground.
Cascade Campground Salida Ranger District Cascade Family Campground is located in the central Colorado Rocky Mountains. A plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities are accessible from this site.
Coaldale Campground Salida Ranger District The Coaldale Campground is located next to the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area. Recreation opportunities include but are not limited to fishing, hiking, biking, four-wheeling and horseback riding.
Collegiate Peaks Campground Salida Ranger District The Collegiate Peaks Campground provides access to a variety of recreation opportunities. The site is heavily wooded with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and aspen trees.
Colorado Trail (Chalk Creek to Highway 50) Salida Ranger District Segment 14 of the Colorado Trail extends 20 miles south from Chalk Creek Road to Highway 50 west of Maysville. This portion of the trail is open to foot, horse and bike traffic.
Colorado Trail (Clear Creek to North Cottonwood Creek Salida Ranger District Segment 12 of the Colorado Trail leads 18 miles south from Clear Creek Road to North Cottonwood Creek Road. Opportunity exists to hike the lofty peaks of Mts. Harvard and Columbia from this section of the trail.
Cottonwood Lake Campground Salida Ranger District The immediate area surrounding Cottonwood Lake Campground is wooded by small aspen trees. The site is located in the central Rocky Mountains.
